MATT Shapiro

Goalkeeper Trainer

Coach Matt brings four decades of playing and coaching experience to the field. A former club and Olympic Development player from Columbia, Maryland, he was a four-year starter at Division III powerhouse Franklin & Marshall. He has coached at the recreational, travel, and club levels, and offers individual and group training—primarily for goalkeepers, though he still enjoys working with field players (he is still a wing midfielder at heart).

Coach Matt’s philosophy centers on developing technical skills in “The Bubble”—the three-yard space around each player. He believes mastery in this zone is key to success in every aspect of the game, from receiving a pass to making a save. His sessions focus on repetition, quick decision-making, and nurturing a genuine love for the game.
